Concussion & safe participation in sport for children.

Concussions are the third most common hospitalised sports-related injury among children aged 5 to 15 years. In NSW research has shown 1 in 7 injuries sustained while playing rugby league, rugby union, soccer, baseball and hockey were traumatic brain injuries, with soccer being the leading sport for our female athletes. This calls for the promotion of safe participation in sport for our children.

Our Physiotherapists are CCMI accredited in Concussion Management, and have put together a FREE Concussion Information Resource for all Southern Highlands local sports clubs & athletes.

This FREE Concussion Information Resource is intended to help coaches, managers, players and parents know the signs of concussion and how to manage it immediately from the sideline all the way through to full recovery. There are links throughout to recommended resources, an App for every coach and manager to download for their team, and access to an online Concussion Course (<1hour) for free.

We hope local sports clubs and their members find this information resource useful in protecting our athletes and making sport safer for all involved.

Please don’t hesitate to contact our clinic if you have any questions or queries on concussion injury, assessment and treatment. Appointments for assessment and treatment are available at both our Bowral and Moss Vale clinics Monday - Friday. Acute Sports Injury Assessments are available each Monday afternoon, book via phone (on the day) only.
