Matt Snowden

Director / Physiotherapist

Matt Snowden is a Bowral local, having grown up in the Southern Highlands. Following his senior year as School Captain at Chevalier College, Matt went on to study physiotherapy at Charles Sturt University in Albury. Throughout his undergraduate degree Matt developed an interest in the role of physio in the military. When he completed his course he joined the Australian Army as one of only six enlisted physios. After a three-year posting in Townsville, Matt was promoted to Officer in Charge of the Physiotherapy Department at Holsworthy Barracks in Sydney, where he remained for two years.

Matt’s keen interest in sports physio was developed further during his time in the Defence Force, where he had many opportunities to travel to state, national and international sporting competitions. He helped personnel recover from injury and return to a peak level of physical fitness on a daily basis. It was during this time that he developed a streamlined concept of how to progress from the initial physio treatment of injury to incorporate strength and conditioning principles to enhance recovery.

Matt then worked in a private physio and Pilates clinic in Launceston, Tasmania. He was involved in the management of complex and difficult cases, which again challenged him to develop new skills and strategies to help his patients. He continued to be heavily involved with sports physio, providing services to local Australian Rules football teams competing in the State League competition.

Since returning to Bowral in 2009, Matt has developed very close working relationships with local doctors, specialists, allied health practitioners, fitness professionals, local sports clubs and community groups. He’s looking forward to increasing physio support to a variety of sports clubs in the Highlands, and is committed to the support and development of local junior athletes.
