Physiotherapy and COVID-19 - what you need to know

Our clinic remains open!

It has been made clear by The Australian Physiotherapy Association and Federal Minister for Health that Allied Health is essential and we are encouraged to continue providing care

At The Physio Space we have clinicians with skills that can keep WELL people out of GP clinics and Emergency Departments. You do not need a referral to see a Physiotherapist. We can refer for imaging and provide acute care such as:

  • assessment of acute injuries to muscles and joints,
  • casting and splinting for fractures,
  • concussion assessments
  • AND we will liase with your Doctor regarding your treatment!

    If you or someone you know has an injury please encourage them to see a Physio and stay out of an already overwhelmed medical system.

    As Physiotherapists we always practice Universal Precautions - washing our hands between patients and using hand sanitiser is not new for us. At The Physio Space we are however taking some extra care to keep you and our staff healthy under the advice of NSW Health and the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

    It is safe to attend your appointment at The Physio Space. We have put into place extra measures to ensure the safety of our patients and staff:

  • We have reduced the amount of staff in clinic per day to enable recommended social distancing.
  • We have extended our opening hours to offer greater flexibility and availability for those working from home or looking after kids at home. Our opening hours include 8am-8pm Monday - Friday, 8am-6pm Saturday .
  • Want to wait in your car - no worries just call our reception when you arrive and we will call or SMS once your physio is ready!
  • Video consults are now running for those of you who can't or do not wish to leave the house
  • On arrival to the clinic, we ask that you please use our bathroom to wash your hands with soap and water on arrival to our clinic. Good hand washing is still our best defence and it helps if you do it when you get here! We will do the same for you.

    If you have an appointment coming up please call our receptionists if:

  • you are unwell at all - let's not risk it! This particularly includes symptoms of Covid-19 including fever, cough and shortness of breath;
  • you have travelled overseas in the past 14 days. By law, you are required to self-isolate. This includes not attending Physiotherapy appointments;
  • you have been in close contact with someone who has, or is suspected to have Covid-19.
  •

    Just because you can't get here doesn't mean we aren't here to help...

    Sure, we can't reach through the screen and release that trigger point, do dry-needling or get that joint moving, but there are still many things we can do to keep your treatment going whilst you are at home:

  • Assessments: much of the information we gain in an assessment is done by taking a thorough history and observing movements. We can still do both of these via video link.
  • For acute injuries we can have you doing all the right things from the start to speed up your recovery.
  • We have online access to medical imaging taken in the Southern Highlands, so can review your X-Rays, MRI's and CT results without the need to bring anything in.
  • Subsequent Consultations: We can talk through how your exercise program and self-management is going and make changes to progress you along your treatment, including updating your exercises live in PhysiApp.
  •

    Video conferencing may be a great way for our more vulnerable patients such as the elderly and small children with disabilities to keep management going whilst minimising exposure.Check out the video's on our social media pages to see just how easy it is!

    Here at The Physio Space we are committed to continuing to deliver high quality physiotherapy treatment to the Southern Highlands and are doing everything we can to ensure safety and continuing care for our patients. If you have any questions please don't hesiate to call our clinic on (02) 4861 1223.
